Is Netflix planning to end Altered Carbonafter season 2? The show is currently in the middle of production with mostly new cast members and a new showrunner. While the streaming platform has not yet confirmed its release date, Netflix has announced it is planning to have an Altered Carbon animated series.

According to VarietyNetflix has partnered with the production house Anima to create the original anime series Altered Carbon: Resleeved. This show will not carry the same storylines and characters as the live-action version, which debuted on the platform in February 2018.

The Altered Carbon anime is part of Netflix's plan to become the "most compelling and attractive home for anime fans, creators and production studios," per the press release. The streaming platform hopes to forge partnerships with production houses to connect with thousands of anime fans from over 190 countries.

But what could this mean for the live-action version? Is Netflix planning to make a shift for this particular show?

As it is, Altered Carbon season 2 has had some changes behind the scenes. In March, Deadline reported the show would have a new showrunner in Alison Schapker. Altered Carbon season 1 showrunner Laeta Kalogridis, however, will continue to work as executive producer.

A story on IndieWire also pointed out that female showrunners and creators are usually the first ones to get canceled on Netflix. It did not renew Alter Carbon season 2 until five months after it was released. Since the streaming platform doesn't share its subscription or viewership numbers, it's difficult to gauge where Altered Carbon ranks or if it's in danger of cancellation.

Meanwhile, Altered Carbon season 2 will have a new lead character in incoming Captain America actor Anthonie Mackie. He has replaced Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi Kovacs. It was revealed in the first season finale that Kovacs' consciousness was transferred to a new host, which is the body of Mackie's character.

Joining the actor in Altered Carbon season 2 are additional new faces Michael Shanks, Simone Missick, Dina Shihabi, Torben Liebrecht and James Saito. Old-timers like Chris Connor and Renée Elise Goldsberry will still be part of the returning season.

Altered Carbon season 2 will be based on the book "Broken Angels" by Richard Morgan and will feature a 30-year time jump from the first season. Kovacs will be transported to a new planet, but he will face the same dilemma as a hunted man on the run.
