Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their son Baby Archie Harrison were photographed arriving at the airport in Nice, France last Wednesday, Aug. 14. The Sussex royals rode their private jet after it was reported that the family also stayed for a solemn birthday holiday for Duchess Meghan in Ibiza, Spain just two days before.
Daily Mail shared the photo of Duchess Meghan as she got out of their private plane. Wearing a cream hat and a white top, the duchess was clutching her three-month-old son in her arms. Prince Harry was also with his wife and child, and he was wearing a green polo shirt and a cap to cover his face.
The Sussex royals have been the subject of much criticism for using private planes for their trips when they are supposed to be eco-warriors. Professing that they would like to save the Earth and leave a better environment for the children, the Daily Mail report also stated that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan made "three environmentally damaging flights" in the last few days.
Apart from the trip to Nice and Ibiza, the couple also allegedly flew to Hampshire, England. Last July, Prince Harry also made a trip to Sicily using a private jet to join billionaires at the Google summit to talk about climate change, of all things.
"Given the position they have taken publicly about being responsible on climate change, this does seem an anomaly which they should look at," Labour MP Teresa Pearce said. "I find this quite surprising because it doesn't fit with their public image and the way they're so concerned about the planet and the environment."
Buckingham Palace hasn't released comments on the Sussex royals' trips that contribute to the carbon footprint. This royal privilege is also costing taxpayers money, according to other critics.
Meanwhile, a new report about the couple cited that Queen Elizabeth shot down Duchess Meghan's request to live in the historic Windsor Castle. According to The Times, there were several empty rooms at the Queen's Easter home that Duchess Meghan had been eyeing on after her marriage to Prince Harry. However, the Queen didn't agree with her the idea because Windsor Castle is not an ideal place to raise a young family.
The Times spoke with Hugo Vickers, a royal author, who said that Windsor Castle was special for the Sussex royals because it's where they got married. Instead, the Queen housed them in the five-bedroom Frogmore Cottage, which is also within the Windsor Castle estate and is said to one of the Queen's favorite homes.
