Monster Musume season 2 is a highly awaited anime series. It last aired in 2015, but fans are still hoping that a new release date for the second season should come around in the last quarter of 2019.

According to several fan discussions on Reddit, it doesn't look like Studio Lerche is doing a project on Monster Musume season 2. The production house has been busy working on a couple of other projects to focus on the follow-up.

Since there are no announcements of the project in the works, the follow-up is likely not going to happen any time soon. However, could the studio spring a surprise and have a last-minute announcement regarding the show in the next few months? That's what fans hope will happen.

In 2017, Okayado, the creator of the manga series the anime is based from, said that he'd love to do Monster Musume season 2. Because the show was so well-received, it seemed highly probable for a second season.

In an interview with Anime News Network, Okayado expressed his plans for Monster Musume, the manga and the anime series.

"Right now I'm focusing on the main characters, the main monster girls," the creator said. "But I would love to write about the side-stories of the other nine main character girls as well."

However, Okayado was set back with a personal problem a few months later, delaying his work on the manga. In December 2018, the artist eventually returned with the release of Chapter 62, following his health hiatus. Since then, there has still been no word about the fate of the anime show.

Fans got the idea of a Monster Musume season 2 renewal because of a scene in the first season. According to Crunchy Roll, there was an easter egg in the final episode of Monster Musume season 1 that showed a sign by the road with the words "Niki Kette," which meant that the second season had been confirmed.

Monster Musume, also known as Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls, follows the story of Kimihito who has been keeping and caring for "liminals" or monsters like mermaids, centaurs and other mythical creatures in his home.  Kimihito is not a part of the government's Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act," which allowed for these liminals to live like ordinary citizens, but his situation was eventually made into a test case.

Kimihito was asked to choose which creature to marry and procreate, thus began his complicated life in Monster Musume. The female creatures all competed for his attention that he had a harder time keeping up with these liminal relationships.

The anime has been lauded for its naughty and comedic storylines, and the manga itself topped the best-selling list. Monster Musumeseason 1 had 12 episodes and ran from July to September 2015. A special DVD release with two stories was consequently released in November 2016 and April 2017.
