It looks like there's a new doctor in town and the cast of Chicago Med Season 5 is about to get interesting. The newest addition to the emergency department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center is set to be a bad boy, but there's a huge possibility that he's here to stay. Unfortunately, it could also mean that someone is about to leave the hospital. Will Dr. Marcel Crockett serve as Dr. Ava Bekker's replacement in the NBC series?

According to Deadline, Dominic Rains has just been confirmed to join the cast of Chicago Med Season 5. The Agents of SHIELD star has been cast as Dr. Marcel Crockett, an ED doctor who comes from Louisiana. The report describes Dr. Crockett as a true rebel who "gambles, drinks, and parties all night but hooks himself to an IV drip in the morning to slide into work like a true badass." For now, Rains is set to appear as a recurring character, but this could change now that certain members of the main cast are leaving the show.

Back in April, it was confirmed that Norma Kuhling would be leaving the series. The actress, who plays Dr. Ava Bekker, has reportedly left due to "creative reasons" in dealing with the character's story arc. Kuhling's final episode was 'With A Brave Heart' where her character had a tense confrontation with Colin Donnell's Dr. Connor Rhodes. Donnell is also departing from the show but has somehow still been listed to return in the fifth season.

So does this mean that Dr. Marcel Crockett will be replacing Ava Bekker? The cardiothoracic surgeon has certainly had a rocky start on the series although Norma Kuhling was eventually promoted to the main cast in the third season. It might be too early to tell, but Dominic Rains could also get promoted depending on how fans react to his character.

And what's the deal with Colin Donnell? Although he confirmed that he is leaving the series, there are speculations that Connor Rhodes is still expected to show up in the fifth season. There is a possibility that Donnell will appear as a guest star to finally tie up Connor's storyline in Chicago Med Season 5. Hopefully, this means that fans haven't seen the last of Connor Rhodes just yet.

Chicago Med Season 5 is currently in production. The series is then set to return on NBC on September 25.
