HBO has yet to announce if there will be True Detective Season 4, but creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto already has an idea for the possible next installment. The 43-year-old novelist revealed his "exciting" plan for the new season, admitting he has a "wild" concept for where things would go.

"I had this idea, and to me, I think it's a really strong idea, and it would be something I've never seen on television before," Pizzolatto told IndieWire. "But since then, I've had another idea that I've talked about with an actor, and that, to me, would be the most exciting thing we could do with True Detective."

Although the famed short story writer has yet to reveal the concept he has or who even is the actor he is talking about, he teased True Detective Season 4 might feel like a different show or movie. And even though HBO has yet to renew the show, he is now focusing on the plan that he "really, really wants to do" for the new season.

Pizzolatto continued to say his idea would also be great for fans. However, he, too, doesn't know if he will have the chance to do it. According to Digital Spy, the producer's lack of optimism echoes HBO boss Casey Bloys' comments when he said Season 4 was not currently in the works.

Bloys said Pizzolatto is still thinking of a new idea for True Detective Season 4 and the network will be waiting to see it. There will be a "wait-and-see approach" to see what he has to offer. So far, the creator has yet to pitch anything, and Bloys think he is still "noodling" ideas.

At the recent Television Critics Associate press tour, Bloys is convinced Pizzolatto already has his concept for the new season, but he might have nothing that he is passionate about. The network's programming president HBO would handle a potential new installment the same way it did with Season 3, per Deadline.

If Pizzolatto already has a concept that he is excited about, Bloys and he will talk about it, but they will never rush anything. To recall, fans have waited three and a half years between the release of Season 2 and Season 3.

True Detective Season 3 got nine Emmy nominations, while its lead star, Mahershala Ali, who played Wayne Hays, earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. However, the show missed the limited series nom. Anyhow, it looks like fans will be up on a waiting game for True Detective Season 4.
