Three months have passed ever since HBO clients have seen the last of Game of Thrones. But while the highly-rated show has finally concluded, the network is now eyeing and positioning new scripted materials for its post 'GoT' flagship.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Succession is one of HBO's scripted materials that have been impressively performing after the Game of Thrones era. And with its second season arrival just a few weeks ago, this only proves that the show still has a long way to go.
On August 11, a year after the pilot season finale, Succession Season 2 premiered on the network. And just like the first run, the new season will house a total of ten episodes.
Currently, it is now two episodes deep. But right after the Vaulter episode that aired on August 18, HBO has announced that Succession will continue to run its course for another season. This made a lot of fans happy and excited, knowing that the Roy clan will continue to play with power, media, and politics.
As per TV Line, the current season has garnered over 1.2 million viewers in its opening night across all HBO platforms including linear and digital. Based on records, it is up by 5 percent in comparison to what the pilot season had during its arrival in 2018.
This series that highly explores "wealth, power, and family" has been very well connected with its audience as per HBO. And this is probably the reason why the network renewed the show for a third installment.
It is also worth noting that, ever since its pilot premiere, Succession has already received several awards and distinctions from various events. They've won the Best International Programme in the most recent BAFTA TV Awards. And considering that this already happened even just after airing one season of ten episodes, it is already a tell that the show has a lot more to offer in terms its course, plot, and dynamic.
CNN has also shared the same news about the show. However, no further details have been given about the new season. Besides, the second season has just arrived, and there will be eight more episodes to come before the third season would finally make sense. Hence, fans need not worry anymore as Succession Season 3 is already sealed and a done deal.
The second season's next episode titled, Hunting, will air on August 25, on HBO.
