The fourth season of the CBS family sitcom Life in Pieces concluded back in June and viewers expected new episode this coming fall. However, the network announced there would be no Life in Pieces season 5, confirming the series has been canceled. But, some still believe the show might happen at some point.

According to a report from TVLine, the fourth season had an average of 0.84 demo rating and a total of 5.8 million viewers, down to 24 percent from the third season. These numbers weren't high enough to keep Life in Pieces season 5 for the 2019 fall line-up. Among the nine sitcoms this TV season on CBS, the sitcom only outranked Happy Together in the demo.

A report via TV Guide also suggests Life in Pieces season 5 has been canceled to give way to other incoming comedies this fall and the midseason. Before the premiere of the fourth season, CBS moved the sitcom to a spring run rather than its usual fall schedule. This decision raised a red flag, with many believing it will be canceled on the network, and turns out to be true.

However, some fans are still hoping the program will return as series creator Justin Adler said he didn't end the sitcom as a series finale, suggesting that Life in Pieces season 5 was still on the table. It's also possible the fifth installment will happen, but not on CBS, and will be on other platform or network instead.

During its freshman run, the show was No. 2 sitcom on CBS, trailing only The Big Bang Theory. The sitcom debuted on CBS in September 2015 and ended in 2019, but the network announced its cancelation in May 2019, while the fourth season is still airing. The sitcom follows the lives of three generations of the Short family as they go on their daily lives in LA County.

The cast members of Life in Pieces include Colin Hanks (as Greg), Betsy Brandt (Heather), Thomas Sadoski (Matt), Zoe Lister-Jones (Jen), Dan Bakkedahl (Dr. Tim), Angelique Cabral (Colleen), Niall Cunningham (Tyler), Holly J. Barrett (Sam), James Brolin (John), Dianne Wiest (Dr. Joan), Hunter King (Clementine), Thomas Sadoski (Matt), and Ana Sophia Heger (Lark).

Meanwhile, some of them had signed on to other projects, such as Brandt currently on USA Network's Pearson and Sadoski returns on CBS' Tommy. Lister-Jones works as one of the executive producers of ABC's Woman Up, while Cabral is one of the voice actors on Amazon's upcoming adult cartoon Undone.
