A lot of people praised Prince William and Kate Middleton, for taking a commercial flight to Scotland with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Being members of the Royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could easily demand a private and more luxurious flight, and everyone would willingly oblige.
However, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took private jets on their vacation, they were brutally criticized for it. So seeing Prince William and Kate Middleton taking a commercial flight was like a breath of fresh air.
Unfortunately, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s commercial flight to Scotland may not be as ideal as everyone thought. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted an early FlyBe commercial flight from Norwich, England to Aberdeen, Scotland earlier this week. The trip was to visit the Queen at Balmoral.
While this gesture made Prince William and Kate Middleton very relatable and down to earth, a new report suggests that their budget Scotland flight was not eco-friendly at all. “It's utterly extraordinary and makes a mockery of their family's very laudable attempts to travel more economically and in a more environmentally friendly manner,” a source told Mail Online.
It appears that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s commercial flight to Scotland have resulted in 4.5 extra tons of carbon emissions. While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not know that an empty flight was flown from Humberside to Norwich to ensure the Flybe brand would be on the aircraft they traveled on, the insider called the whole incident “utterly ridiculous.”
“An additional 4.5 tons of carbon emissions were created simply to ensure that an aircraft with Flybe written on the side operated the flight with the Royal party aboard, instead of the usual aircraft which flies the route,” the source added.
A spokesman for Flybe denies having any involvement in the decision. Also, Eastern Air called all questions regarding Prince William and Kate Middleton's commercial flight to Scotland, “immaterial, as long as all their passengers had a nice flight.”
It is safe to say that the Royal family couldn’t win with their critics. When they fly on private jets, they are criticized for it. When they took commercial flights, they are called ridiculous. But the Royals are probably used to these comments and do what they think is best in specific situations.
