Being a royal entails having to adhere to many protocols. Even though it is normal for a regular family, it is far more complicated when one is a member of the monarchy. This is why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were politely rejected by Queen Elizabeth II when the couple sought to live at Windsor Castle.
According to royal expert Hugo Vickers, it would have been weird for the public to hear of the Queen's decision since there are many empty rooms and apartments at Windsor that Her Majesty could have spared for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, it makes total sense for a Queen who follows tradition, Express UK reported.
"There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments which the Sussexes may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things. But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there," Vickers said in an interview.
It has previously been reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had their hearts set on living in Windsor after they got married as they spent much time together as a couple. Within Windsor Castle's compounds, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said their vows at St George's Chapel. This was also where their firstborn, baby Archie, was christened.
Following the Queen's decision, Prince Harry and Meghan opted to move to a royal residence in Frogmore Cottage which is just a 10-minute drive away from Windsor Palace. The home, which was renovated for £2.3m in the weeks before the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.
It has previously been reported that there are plans for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to move their family for Africa for a few months a year when Archie is a bit older. This, according to sources, is for the couple to capitalize on their influence on young people, and advance their advocacies for environment and community.
For the meantime, it has been confirmed that the family of three will be embarking on their first royal tour of Africa this fall.
"The Duke and Duchess are really looking forward to meeting so many of you on the ground and continuing to raise awareness of the high impact work local communities are doing across the commonwealth and beyond," their official press release disclosed.
Prince Harry and Meghan have often used their voice to speak out about empowerment of marginalized sectors, and also champion environmental issues, Time reported.
