Manny Pacquiao is resting his laurels as he skims through possible next opponents. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is at the top of the list although the chances of seeing a rematch are not so good. Danny Garcia or Mikey Garcia is reportedly under consideration. But there is no word that the winner of the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Shawn Porter match will be proposed to the eight-time division champion as well.

However, Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach is not coy about the idea of Manny facing a bigger and stronger fighter in Spence. Being the favored fighter in that September joust, it may all boil down to the two Garcia pugs, Boxingscene.com said.

Danny Garcia is confident that he can overwhelm Pacquiao because he has power punches and is a good counter-puncher. However, that is practically the same rant that Keith Thurman had before falling to the eight-time division champion.

Curiously, Garcia felt Thurman had the advantage before the showdown last July. He was surprised to see the 40-year-old boxer/ senator, adding that Pac-Man showed he was still one of the top fighters in the sport.

“I knew he was a legend. I always knew he could fight. But I didn’t think he was gonna win the fight. You know, I couldn’t see him beating a younger guy. Thurman’s a lot stronger than him. Thurman’s, you know, more fresher. But the legend proved everybody wrong, so he definitely looked good. He looked strong and definitely still – crazy to say – but still a top fighter.”

Now, Garcia will have to play the waiting game and see if he is the one chose as Manny Pacquiao's next opponent. If not, he can patiently wait for his chance. Some feel that Pacquiao will be retiring soon although a former Filipino Olympian begs to differ.

Arlo Chavez, a boxer and the flag bearer for the Philippines during the 1992 Summer Olympics, feels Pacquiao can fight until he is 50. He singles out how Pac-Man remains hungry and how his lifestyle has played an important role in his continued success in the boxing ring.

“At 30 to 40 years old, boxers usually decline. That is not the case with Manny. With his lifestyle, he could fight until he is 50-years-old. Even if he is busy with his job, it serves as his workout. He needs to wake up early and has options. He can job and get ready for work. He is one of the busiest boxers to date,” said Chavez in Filipino in an interview by Filipino sports journalist Brian Yalung.
