This Is Us season 4 has unveiled a bunch of new faces that viewers will come to know in the first episode back. The extended season premiere, titled "Strangers," is all set to return on Sept. 24 but could one of these new faces be the mother of Kevin's son in the future timeline?
The teaser of This Is Us season 4 featured lead star Mandy Moore (as Rebecca) telling Milo Ventimiglia (as Jack) how much strangers become a big part of their lives. This scene looked like Rebecca and Jack are still dating and getting to know each other.
"It's actually kind of terrifying, you know? How a single cross with one person you've never met can change everything," Rebecca told Jack.
A montage of new faces was also shown in the teaser without naming who they were. But some of those recognized by fans included director M. Night Shyamalan, Animal Kingdomactor Bahara Golestani, When They See Us stars Asante Black and Marsha Stephanie Blake, Psych's Timothy Omundson, Queen Of The South actor Julian Silva, Shades of Blueactor Nick Wechsler, Doubt's Auden Thornton and Omar Epps from House.
The biggest mysterious stranger shown in the montage was Once Upon a Time's star Jennifer Morrison. Morrison's casting on This Is Us season 4 was confirmed in June. TV Line reported that the actress will be playing a substantial role thus fans have guessed she could be playing the still-unknown mother of the son of Kevin (played by Justin Hartley) featured in the finale of This Is Us season 3.
Viewers will recall that This Is Us season 3 ended with a flash-forward of the Pearson family gathering at Kevin's big house as Rebecca was on her deathbed. One teenage boy told his Uncle Randall (played by Sterling K. Brown) that his father is going to be home in a few minutes.
In the present timeline, Kevin just broke up with Zoe (played by Melanie Liburd) because she didn't want to have children. That scene from the future revealed that Kevin will find someone who wants the same thing as him -- a family.
Meanwhile, Brown spoke with Entertainment Weekly to confirm that This Is Us season 4 is going to "broaden" the world of every member of the Pearson family. Aside from these new faces, his character and TV wife Beth (played by Susan Kelechi Watson) will start life fresh as they move to Philadelphia so that Randall can serve as a councilman and Beth can open her dance studio.
"We're not necessarily understanding how characters are connected to the Pearson plan at large," the actor said. "There will be something that is disruptive, from the beginning."
