Will ABC renew Grand Hotel for season 2? That's the lingering question on the minds of fans now that the show is ending its first season. On Monday, Sept. 9, viewers of the drama series will finally find out what happened to Sky (played by Arielle Kebbel) but what about the fate of the show?
In August, ABC President of Entertainment Karey Burke told the press that the network would decide on Grand Hotel's status after the season wraps up. Burke also said that the executives love this summer series a lot, but its ratings could have been improved.
"It's a show that I wish the ratings were a bit stronger, but we'll make that decision after its run," the TV executive said.
Grand Hotel, which premiered on ABC in June, rake in an average of 2.8 million viewers in its weekly run. However, it remains below 0.5 in its demographic or targeted viewers, per TV Series Finale.
ABC had been hoping that Grand Hotel's viewership would pick up in the last few weeks with Bachelor in Paradise as the new lead-in. The show did rise in the ratings, but as Burke said, the ratings aren't as strong as the network would have hoped.
Meanwhile, Grand Hotel season 1 episode 13, titled "A Perfect Storm" will also reveal the real identity of Danny (played by Lincoln Younes) based on the episode synopsis. The teaser promises that the finale episode will be dark and crazier than ever.
Created by Ramon Gampos and Gema R. Niera, Grand Hotel is about a family-owned hospitality enterprise in Miami Beach. It follows the lives of the patriarch Santiago Mendoza (played by Demian Bichir), his second wife Gigi (played by Roselyn Sanchez), his adult children from the first marriage -- Alicia (played by Denyse Tontz) and Javi (played by Bryan Craig), and the staff -- the waiter Danny, the hotel manager Mateo (played by Shalim Ortiz), the head staff Helen/Mrs P (played by Wendy Raquel Robinson), and their family.
The stories and mysteries unfold after Sky, the hotel's chef, mysteriously disappears. One by one, the family and the staff's secrets unfold to reveal a twisted tale of power, blackmail, and deceit.
Development of Grand Hotel started in 2017 with Eva Longoria as one of the producers. The show's story is based on the Spanish drama series Gran Hotel. In May 2018, ABC confirmed that the show would go to series and was set to debut in the summer of 2019.
