Magnum P.I. season 2 is in for another wild ride on CBS. The show, starring Jay Hernandez as the private investigator Thomas Magnum, will kick off its new season with a standoff between the lead character and a person with a gun.

Photos from TV Insider reveal that Magnum P.I. season 2 episode 1 will find Leanna Owens (played by Sonya Balmores) desperate for an answer as she points a gun towards the private investigator. Magnum tries to keep Leanna calm as tension rises in the standoff.

Succeeding photos from Magnum P.I. season 2 episode 1 show Higgins (played by Perdita Weeks) talking to the team at the dinner table. Whatever she has to say has everyone's attention. Could it be about her decision on Magnum's proposition?

Magnum P.I. season 2 episode 1 is titled "Payback for Beginners." The season premiere has the following episode synopsis from CBS, per KSite TV

"While Magnum waits for Higgins to decide if she'll officially become his partner, he takes the case of a missing wife who witnessed her boss' murder during a bank robbery. Also, Rick makes a big decision about his career.

When Magnum P.I. season 2 returns it won't be on its usual Monday time schedule. CBS has moved the show for a Friday run beginning Sept. 27, 20,19 at 10:00 p.m.

Magnum P.I. season 2 will air after Hawaii Five-0 season 10. The new time schedule fits well since both shows come from the same production team who are filming in Hawaii.

This could potentially open up more opportunities for crossovers in succeeding episodes. They had tried to bring the two worlds together when Kimee Balmilero and Taylor Wily had a few guest appearances in both shows last season as Noelani Cunha and Kamekona Tupuola.

"We talk about it a lot in the room, how to do it. I think there's a way to do it, it's just logistics," Peter Lenkov, the executive producer of both Hawaii Five-0and Magnum P.I. said during the Paley Fest panel. "We'd love to make that work out."

Developed in late 2017, Magnum P.I. is the reboot of the show which was quite popular in the '80s. A few months later, CBS confirmed that the pilot is going into production with esteemed director Justin Lin helming the pilot.

The series received a second renewal in January 2019. Aside from Hernandez and Weeks, Magnum P.I. season 2 also stars Zachary Knighton (as Rick), Stephen Hill (as TC), Amy Hill (as Kumu) and Tim Kang (as Detective Katsumoto).
