The Last Kingdom season 4 opens a new chapter in the saga of Uhtred, the warrior who sometimes reluctantly helped King Alfred win countless battles for the glory of Wessex. But with King Edward ascending the throne after his father's death, will the two have a better relationship?
Timothy Innes, who reprises his role as Edward, clued in on whether his character will get along with Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon) in The Last Kingdom season 4. In an interview with Winter is Coming, the young actor said that honesty, respect, empathy are tough qualities to uphold in the 9th century. He implied that because of this, there will be animosity between Uhtred and Edward in the upcoming installment.
"Honesty builds the foundation for communication and trust. However, in the 9th century, no one seemed to care about this so, I'd say strap in for more hostility," Innes teased.
As a young man, Edward relied on Uhtred for guidance and support. He looked up to the warrior who was instrumental in Edward winning a battle against the Danes in The Last Kingdom season 3.
At that time, Edward wanted to gain the approval of his father and Uhtred immensely helped him win this favor. But now that he is his own king, Innes' statement seemed to suggest that Uhtred and Edward won't be friends like before.
Meanwhile, The Last Kingdom season 4 cast member Magnus Brunn (as Cnut) has finished filming his scenes. In a post on Twitter, the actor confirmed that he has wrapped up his work for the Netflix series, leading to speculations that his character will die in the upcoming season.
One fan did ask Brunn if Cnut dies in The Last Kingdom season 4. The actor replied that he has filmed his "last scene for the season." Whether Brunn was trying not to give away spoilers or not, fans will find out what really happened to him when the show returns in 2020.
Netflix, however, has not yet revealed the actual release date. It's likely that The Last Kingdom season 4 will have new teasers and a release schedule update by January or February next year. Meanwhile, seasons 1 to 3 remain streaming on the platform for those who'd like to rewatch or catch up on this show.
