Mr. Robot season 4 will be the final season of the USA Network series. Despite the show ending soon, fans will be treated with a special gift as the last run will be much like a "one long Christmas special."

Creator and showrunner Sam Esmail confirmed the theme of Mr. Robot season 4 at the Tribeca Film Festival panel. He said that he got the idea of delivering the show as a Christmas special from British television.

"Typically how [British shows] wrap up series, like the British [version of] Office, you tend to do a Christmas special," Esmail said. "So the final season of Mr. Robotis one very long Christmas special that will last about a week over Christmas of 2015."

Esmail also explained why the show remains set in 2015 after four seasons of airing. When he pitched the series to USA Network, he especially wanted the show to be a period piece but dealing with current issues like technology and hacking.

Oscar-winner Rami Malek will be back for the last time to reprise his role as the hacker Elliot for Mr. Robot season 4. Christian Slater will also return to play his alter ego, Mr. Robot.

Malek told Entertainment Tonight that he couldn't wait for the viewers to find out what happens in Mr. Robot season 4. When he learned how it would all end, Malek admitted that it left him dropping his jaw on the floor.

"[Christian Slater and I] both got a call from Sam Esmail, our director, executive producer, creator, and my mouth was agape after he told me how the season ended," the actor revealed."So, it's going to be a very, very, climatic ending to what I think has been four great seasons of television."

But Malek was also waxing sentimental over the end of the show. He said that he wanted to do more after Mr. Robot season 4, but Esmail is determined to conclude the story once and for all. The show took a nearly two-year break since Malek had to finish his movie commitments.

Mr. Robot is about a cybersecurity engineer with hacking skills who suffer from a mental disorder. He joins a group of hackers bent on crushing the financial market while targeting the biggest company in the world E Corp.

Mr. Robot season 4 will begin airing its final season on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 10:00 p.m. The show also stars Carly Chaikin (as Darlene), Portia Doubleday (as Angela Moss), and Martin Wallstrom (as Tyrell Wellick).
