The wait is on for the renewal of BH90210 season 2. FOX has yet to decide and announce if the show is coming back after its limited run in August but does it have any chance?
In an interview with The Wrap, BH90210 stars Jennie Garth, and Tori Spelling said that they don't know what FOX's plans are for the show for now. Despite the uncertainty, they have a few ideas for the second season, should the network give it a go since they had all intentions to keep the show going.
"It will be juicy because it'll be more about the show," Garth said. "The filming of the actual show and more of these people thrust into each other's lives like all the time."
BH90210 is a show about the stars as a heightened version of themselves. Originally billed as an "event series," the show had six episodes only and was fast-tracked for the summer because of its premise as a comedy.
Garth, Spelling and their co-stars Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and Gabrielle Carteris mocked themselves on this show, but it also had a proper storyline that viewers followed. At the end of the sixth episode, the fictional Beverly Hills 90210 reboot on the show within a show was one its way to become a full-fledged series.
However, the end left a cliffhanger which suggested one of the BH90210 stars will not be coming back. In the fictional setting, network executives wanted to recast one of them, and both Garth and Spelling promised there would be a drama in the second season.
"The original, even though it was a drama, it was considered a little bit of a night-time soap at moments, especially in the later seasons," Spelling revealed. "So, while we have comedy and emotion, we also have the soapy aspect of it."
Garth and Spelling also said that they still have to work out who's coming back for BH90210 season 2. They believe that the actors enjoyed this mini-reunion and would likely be willing to work with each other again.
But according to Variety, ratings for BH90210 dropped over six weeks so it might not likely get a favorable renewal from FOX. Loyal fans of the show, however, have set up a petition calling on FOX to bring the show back.
