NCIS Special Agent Dwayne Cassius Pride (played by Scott Bacula) is not alright in NCIS: New Orleans season 6. He is suffering from some sort of a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that is making him have sleepless nights or nightmares when he does get a shuteye.
Remember when Pride was kidnapped and drugged last year, which ended in the death of his father, Cassius Pride (played by Stacy Keach), who tried to save him? According to the episode synopsis for NCIS: New Orleans season 6 episode 2, titled "The Terminator Conundrum," that horrible experience will be the reason for Pride's trauma.
The first few episodes back on NCIS: New Orleans season 6 will have Pride working out these unresolved emotions with his family, which will bring back his mother, played by Joanna Cassidy). Bakula did say in a previous interview with TV Insider that he hopes the actress could return because the character fills in the missing links about Pride.

Executive Producer Christopher Silber revealed in a Paradeinterview that the storyline of Pride's mom would somehow help Pride deal with his issues. Delving into her past before she suffered from a mental illness will be part of Pride's journey throughout NCIS: New Orleans season 6.
Pride's daughter Laurel (played by Shanley Caswell) is also returning to NCIS: New Orleans season 6. The actors were, in fact, filming their scenes recently in New York as Pride flew in to look into an old case and visited Laurel at the same time.
But Pride might not be around much to help his team as he deals with his issues. Meanwhile, Christopher Lasalle (played by Lucas Black) will also have a few things to deal with involving family with the introduction of Eddie Cahill. The actor has scored a multi-episode appearance in NCIS: New Orleans season 6 that will tie his character to Lasalle's brother.
