A lot has changed in the life of Ruth Langmore (played by Julia Garner) since meeting the Byrdes -- Wendy (played by Laura Linney) and Marty (played by Jason Bateman). But, in Ozark season 3, the character will be trapped in a difficult situation that will have her questioning her relationships with this couple.
In an interview with Vulture, Garner said that her character would be quite conflicted in Ozark season 3. There's a part of Ruth that wants so much to belong to the Byrde family since it was Wendy and Marty who gave her so many opportunities to make her life better.
But then, there's a pressing matter that will likely spring up in Ozark season 3, which could change how Ruth feels about the Byrdes. In the previous season, Wendy plotted with Helen (played by Janet McTeer) to kill Ruth's father, Cade (played by Trevor Long), because he was an ex-convict, who would be trouble for the Byrde's business with the casino and the cartel.
If there's going to be trouble, then, it could cost the life of the Byrde family. Thus, Wendy did the best thing she thought would save them from getting killed by colluding with Helen to eliminate Ruth's father.
Ruth did not know how her father has died, and even Marty has no idea of what Wendy did behind his back. Helen also warned Wendy that she would be crossing the line with her plan to have Cade killed; but, the plan came to being anyway. There are speculations that Ruth might get back at Wendy and Marty if she found out the truth about her father in Ozark season 3.
Meanwhile, Wendy's blindside will also cause a rift in her marriage to Marty in Ozark season 3. Their union has been having problems as it is. However, this latest stunt will likely jolt Marty to his senses. Bateman hinted that his character would be in deeper trouble in the next season after he posted a tweet to confirm the show's renewal.
Ozark is about an accountant (Marty), who moves his family to the resort town, believing that this will keep them safe from the cartel. While there, he proposes to the cartel that he can grow their money without flagging the authorities if they would let him launder their millions while sparing his family from death.
The second season of Ozark saw Marty carrying out a brilliant plan to open a riverboat casino where they could clean drug money under a supposedly legit operation. In the process, however, he and his wife (Wendy) became deeply involved in the cartel's operations, as well as the Kansas City mob.
