The Royal Marriages Act of 1772 prohibited the marriage of royal family members to commoners. Also, arranged marriages were quite common in Europe. Although these practices are no longer religiously done, people are still used to seeing a prince or a princess marrying someone with royal blood.
Even though Kate Middleton is every bit of a princess today, she wasn’t born royal. She was a commoner, just like the rest of us. What made her journey different from the rest is the fact that she met a real-life prince, fell in love, and got married.
Now, Kate Middleton has a title of Duchess of Cambridge after she tied the knot with Prince William in 2011. Many believed that the status of the Duke of Cambridge helped Kate a lot, while that would be somewhat true in some sense, Royal commentator Juliet Ridden revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge was someone that the Prince needed for his journey to the throne.
Prince William is the future ruler of England, and he needs someone who is brave, strong, and can make him feel comfortable — Kate Middleton has these skills. "I think part of the reason Prince William felt so comfortable with Kate was that she was comfortable with this role – with the media following her, with being in the public eye,” Ridden said. "The whole Royal Family realized, ‘yes, this is a Royal in the making.”
Being the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and the son of Prince Charles, the Duke of Cambridge has seen the obligations with his two eyes. Being the ruler of the whole of England is not an easy task, and Prince William knows this. But with Kate Middleton by his side throughout his journey, things are a lot easier for him to face.
"We realized how incredibly brave Kate was to face those photographers on the steps of the Lindo Wing like her mother-in-law, Princess Diana had done with William in her arms,” Ridden continued. "Nobody could envy her having to face the cameras within hours of birth, but each time she has done it with such grace and poise, we can’t help loving her for it."
While the Royal family appreciate Kate Middleton’s ability to make Prince William feel comfortable the most, the public loves her for merging the worlds of Royalty and commoner. Despite being an official member of the Royal family, the Duchess of Cambridge still has the values and characteristics of an ordinary person, making her very relatable.
