A mysterious new addition in Mr. Robot season 4 has sparked questions from avid viewers of the show. Ashlie Atkinson has joined the fourth and final installment of this Showtime drama as Janice, described as a chatty taxidermist with a cookie sense of humor.
According to Deadline, Atkinson has been cast as a series regular in Mr. Robot season 4. This means that she will be in almost all of the episodes of the show. But, how significant will her role be in the story?
Atkinson, previously, appeared in the movie BlacKkKlansman and played the toxic villain Connie Kendrickson. According to Mic, her character was a key player in the film, and Atkinson effectively played her that viewers ended up hating the character with a passion. The actress felt that it was just incredible to be trusted with such a role.
But, it's not clear if her character in Mr. Robot season 4 will be as strong. Showtime has not released too many details to her role as Janice apart from the late addition into the show.
Meanwhile, Mr. Robot season 4 will delve on the final phase of the plan devised by Elliot Alderson (played by Rami Malek) to bring down Evil Corporation or E-Corp with his group of hackers. The show is currently in the middle of filming its final episodes in New York, but the series will be set on Christmas day 2015.
Creator Sam Esmail has a clear vision of how Mr. Robot season 4 will wrap up since the show began more than four years ago. In an email to The Hollywood Reporter, Esmail said that the finale will go back to the show's initial premise.
"The journey between seasons one to three has been about discovering who the real culprits are," the showrunner said. "The hack was merely a distraction that was co-opted by these people, and it's finally been revealed and exposed to Elliot."
Esmail also acknowledged that the cast and crew did not want to conclude the series just yet, including Malek, despite the actor's busy schedule. The showrunner, however, felt that it was time to cap off the series.
"We ultimately have too much respect for Elliot's journey to extend past its inevitable ending," Esmail said.
Mr. Robot season 4 also stars Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin and Martin Wallstrom. The final season will begin its run on Oct. 6, 2019, on Showtime.
