Could Outlander season 5 be nearly done with production? Marked to return for Feb. 16, 2020, on Starz, the show has a little over six months to complete the current season, which the cast and crew have been working on since early of this year.
Stars Sam Heughan (as Jamie) and Caitriona Balfe (as Claire) have confirmed that Outlander season 5 is almost ready to wrap up. In his podcast show, Clan Lands, Heughan revealed that they just started working on the second to the last episode and they have shot some of the scenes in the cold dead of night in Scotland.
Balfe, on the other hand, teased that Outlander season 5 will be a strong season, which she's certain will please the fans. She also confirmed that they are almost done with filming the next installment to premiere on Starz next year.
"Last season was really setting up the fact that the Frasers were in Fraser's Ridge and that they were starting to settle," Balfe told Entertainment Tonight. "This year is really about this family coming to terms with a lot of consequences of things that happened last season."
Outlander season 5 will open with Jamie and Claire as grandparents after Brianna (played by Sophie Skelton) gave birth at the end of season 4. Now that their family has grown and they have a child to protect, the Frasers will be hard-pressed to make sure that Fraser Ridge is a pleasant and safe place to raise a child.
Meanwhile, as the latest season is coming together, the people behind the scenes are slowly working on the sixth season. Starz, after all, renewed the show for season 6 alongside season 5 last May 2018.
Outlander season 5 will be based on Diana Gabaldon's book, "The Fiery Cross." The follow-up, on the other hand, will be based on the book "A Breath of Snow and Ashes."
Producer Matthew B. Roberts shared on Twitter that the writers' room has been abuzz with Outlander season 6 preparations since mid-September. Thus, some of them will not be able to go to the New York Comic Con in October.
It's still unclear when actual filming for Outlander season 6 should begin, but the cast may also be taking a break during the holidays. It's likely then that the cast will return on the set by the time the fifth season is running on television.
