Matrix 4 is officially happening, though details about the upcoming film remain scarce. Recently, lead star Keanu Reeves revealed he has already read the script, setting the internet on fire once again. The actor returns in the fourth installment as Neo and confirmed the movie is in the works.

Reeves joined his producer sister Karina Miller during the red carpet of her new drama, Semper Fi, in Los Angeles. The duo then talked with Entertainment Tonight and the actor was asked a few details about Matrix 4. While Reeves was tight-lipped about the project, he admitted he had read the script.

"It's very ambitious," Reeves said. "As it should be!"

While the actor didn't go further into details, his remarks are enough to satiate fans as the actor has confirmed Matrix 4 is happening -- for real. The news about the fourth installment arrived over a month ago, with Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively.

Meanwhile, Lana Wachowski is set to direct and write the upcoming film. Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich announced that Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the movie.

Aside from Wachowski, the script was also written by David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon. In addition, Wachowski is also producing, along with Grant Hill. According to Variety, the fourth installment is set to begin its production nearing the beginning of 2020.

The plot of the upcoming film was not yet revealed as well, but rumors suggest there would be a younger Morpheus, which was originally played by Laurence Fishburne. When Matrix 4 has been announced, Fishburne's presence wasn't parts of the reports -- so he might not be part of the upcoming film.

Michael B. Jordan has been rumored to be playing the young Morpheus, with some reports claiming it as early as July. However, there's no confirmation whether or not the Black Panther alum will join the movie, and there's no official announcement if Fishburne won't be a part of the fourth installment.

Meanwhile, the three previous films of Matrix collectively earned over than $1.6 billion at the global box office. The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions were all written and directed by Lana, and her sister Lilly.

Warner Bros. has been trying to get back The Matrix universe over the past years, however, the producing rights slowed the project down. But, there's no need to worry right now; even though there's no official release date, fans were certain Matrix 4 is happening.
