In any marriage, maintaining a good relationship with the in-laws can be challenging, but it could be much harder when your in-laws are Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Duchess Camilla. Yet Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has managed and maintained an excellent relationship with them over the years.
Before marrying Prince William, Queen Elizabeth reportedly had some concerns about Duchess Kate's lack of work experience, identity, and had a lavish lifestyle. According to a royal expert Phil Dampier, it's partly why the induction into her duties as a working royal took some time.
Over the years, however, Duchess Kate has endeared herself to the royal family by proving just how ready she is to be part of their world. For one thing, she was able to show her in-laws that she could handle the pressures of being in the media masterfully that it made even Prince William quite comfortable as well. Another royal expert Juliet Ridden said that the royals had realized Duchess Kate might be "a royal in the making" when she showed she was alright with the media following her around and with being in the public eye.
Last summer in Balmoral, the public witnessed just how close Duchess Kate was to Queen Elizabeth when they were photographed sitting together at the backseat of the car on the way to church. The two were all smiles as Prince William sat on the front side.
Royal experts said that Duchess Kate and Queen Elizabeth look perfectly at ease with each other when they are seen together. One of the reasons for this could be because the Duchess of Cambridge pays attention to royal protocols and does not do anything to outshine the Queen.
The Queen's husband, Prince Philip, on the other hand, is reported to be "partners in crime" with Duchess Kate, according to royal expert Judy James, who is a body language expert. The manner they relate animatedly towards each other show fondness and genuine affection.
Earlier reports suggested that Prince Charles wasn't as fond of Duchess Kate as he was of Duchess Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's wife. However, all these years, the future King of England showed nothing but kindness for his first daughter-in-law. The Duchess of Cambridge, on the other hand, said in interviews that the future King of England was welcoming and friendly towards her during their first meeting.
Similarly, there were reports that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was not as open to welcoming Duchess Kate into the family. However, they have been seen sharing hilarious moments during public events, which proved that the two have a pretty special relationship as well.
