After confirming the cancellation from AMC, Into The Badlands Season 4 has been taking the spotlight. While fans are still hoping that Netflix or other networks would save and pick up the show, reports are claiming that it will no longer happen.
Generally, having a strong fanbase is a very powerful tool in the series industry. With the help of their "campaigns" and other movements, it can make or break a show's future.
Shows like Lucifer and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are great examples of this dynamic. They were canceled previously by their home networks. But, thanks to their strong and loyal fanbases, Netflix and NBC (respectively) picked these shows up and continued their courses.
Into The Badlands is not that different. After AMC announced the cancellation, fans have rallied and initiated a similar campaign to save the dystopian world-martial arts series. The only difference is that no network wants to pick up the show despite the fans' clamor.
Many have remained positive, hoping that Netflix or other platforms would pick up the show. However, it's been almost eight months since AMC's cancellation, and no word has been heard from any network or platform about the show's future.
It is worth noting that networks almost always pick up shows shortly after its cancellation. Within a few days or weeks, fans would already hear updates about the show's movements. Needless to say, the case of Into The Badlands will most likely end up in a bad place.
According to TV Series Finale, one of the main reasons why Season 4 did not happen is because of its viewership records. A "sizable drop" in ratings has become apparent in its second season run. And the decline became even more evident in Season 3.
There was an above 60 percent difference in the demo rating and the total viewers in its return. The numbers dived even further when it reached its finale. From having an average of 1.3 million viewers per episode, the final episodes of Into The Badlands garnered about less than half a million viewers per episode.
Despite the fans' love and loyalty, the numbers speak a lot. With this kind of record at hand, it is quite difficult to imagine that huge networks will take this huge of a risk. Not to mention, the viewership is too volatile. So, it is not surprising at all why Netflix would not want to pick and save Into The Badlands after all.
