It’s common knowledge that the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana didn’t work out. It’s also no secret that one of the main reasons why they broke up was the Prince of Wales’ affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Although Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married for 15 years and have two sons together, the Prince of Wales had always been in love with someone else: his ex-girlfriend, Camilla. Now, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are happily married since 2005, and a couple of photos seemingly hinted that he’s more affectionate towards the Duchess of Cornwall than the Princess of Wales.
A royal fan took to online forum Quora to ask if it’s normal for the royals to show some PDA action. “What do people think about the nearly constant public displays of affection between Prince Harry and his wife and is this a major departure from royal family norms?” they asked.
One netizen then sarcastically responded, “Oh, it’s a horrible departure from Royal protocol! No Royal has EVER made ANY public display of affection. EVER! It’s just not done, my dear! Royals are not human beings, who feel affection towards one another.” She, then, posted a couple of snaps of the royals showing some pubic display of affection; a few of those snaps are Prince Charles and Princess Diana kissing, as well as the Prince of Wales and Camilla smooching.
If one would compare the kissing photos of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and Prince Charles and Camilla, it appears that the Prince of Wales kissed the Duchess of Cornwall more passionately than his ex-wife. The Prince and Princess of Wales also looked awkward around each other in public, while the future king and Camilla looked very relaxed and comfortable.
Prince Charles may have some strong feelings for Princess Diana at the beginning of their relationship as the Princess of Wales even said that “he’d found the virgin, the sacrificial lamb, and in a way, he was obsessed with me, but it was hot and cold, hot and cold.” But, it is now known that the reason for their “hot and cold” relationship was because the Prince of Wales never really moved on from Camilla.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana eventually announced their split in 1993. The People’s Princess was dating film producer Dodi Fayed before her death due to a car crash in August 1997. Princess Diana, Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes S280, Henri Paul, were pronounced dead at the scene.
