Queen Elizabeth II continues to perform her duties as head of the British monarch for more than six decades amidst the growing concern about her health. Reports indicate that the Queen could be in pain because of her knee while there are also rumors that she could also be suffering from the early onset of dementia.
In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II underwent a minor operation on her right knee at the King Edward VII Hospital to remove a torn cartilage. She only took a few weeks to recover and returned to her engagements.
Now, reports indicate that the Queen is braving the pain on her knee again. But, this time, she refuses to take some time off to get surgery because of the current political and economic situation in England.
Daily Express cited a source at the palace who said the Queen mentioned her knee problem to some of her friends last year. However, she is reluctant to undergo surgery due to the time it would take to recover. Apparently, she is enduring the pain since last year and hasn't taken a break from her duties because of the turmoil that the country is in right now.
"People from her and Philip's generation battle through problems and carry on. And Her Majesty doesn't like to cause any fuss," the informant claimed.
Queen Elizabeth II's husband, Prince Philip, retired from royal duties in 2017. The 98-year-old Duke of Edinburgh is now spending his time in Sandringham, Norfolk.
In March, the 93-year-old Queen sparked concern after she was photographed with a visible bruise on her left hand after meeting Jordan's King Abdullah, Queen Rania, and their eldest son Crown Prince Hussein at the Buckingham Palace. Doctors said a minor injury most likely caused the bruise as people her age are more prone to bruising, and their skin gets thinner.
Nonetheless, the incident sparked rumors that the Queen could be abdicating her throne to Prince Charles anytime soon because of health issues. Some also speculate that the Queen could be suffering from dementia and will let Charles take over as regent.
As regent, Prince Charles would assume the majority of Queen Elizabeth II's duties. However, he wouldn't be crowned as king until the passing of his mother.
For now, since the Queen seems to have no plans to slow down on her duties, she is expected to re-open the Parliament on October 14. Additionally, Queen Elizabeth II is also expected to witness the wedding of her granddaughter, Princess Beatrice of York to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The couple announced their engagement last month, and they are set to tie the knot next year.
