Many fans are now thrilled for the upcoming release of The Winds of Winter novel. However, eight years since the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire novel was teased, George R.R. Martin admitted that he had not completed the book yet. Avid followers of the epic fantasy book series blamed the delay to GRRM's countless projects and hectic schedules.

In a recent interview with WGN Radio, George R.R. Martin revealed how he feels about having millions of readers, who have been patiently waiting for The Winds of Winter release. While the 70-year-old author is happy with his significant number of followings, he said some of them are "extremely impatient" and "full of their own ideas" about the fates of the characters in the series.

GRRM admitted that his creative mind has also added to all the distractions that prevent him from finishing the book. He added that the Game of Thrones series took a lot of his time as it haunts him day and night. George R.R. Martin even said that he cannot control his thoughts whenever his ideas start to fill his head.

"There was a period where the show caught and past me, and I hadn't anticipated that happening, so there was a tremendous amount of stress on me a few years ago when that was about to happen but hadn't happened yet, and I was desperately trying to finish Winds and stay ahead," George R.R. Martin recounted. "And it didn't work. The amount of stress that was on me at the time slowed me down rather than speeding me up," The Winds of Winter writer went on.

Earlier this year, George R.R. Martin teased that he is planning to publish The Winds of Winter on or before July 2020. The veteran writer, in May 2019 entry on his blog, said he will be attending the 78th World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) as he was asked to serve as Toastmaster for the Hugo Awards. Later in the post, GRRM said fans can imprison him in a small cabin on White Island if he fails to finish the book before he arrives in New Zealand for the said event.

George R.R. Martin, in July 2017, predicted to finish the sixth book of the A Song of Ice and Fire series in late 2018 or early 2019. However, the much-awaited book is not available for purchase up to this writing. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest news and updates about The Winds of Winter!
