The rapper Microdot's parents, Shinmo and Kim were sentenced to jail for charges of fraud. Shinmo was sentenced to three years and Kim one year.
However, his mother, Kim, was not restrained as a condition to recover the damages until the sentence of higher court was confirmed.
Judge Ha who judged the case said, "It seems that the couple had no intention to pay back the money." He said. "It is not good to borrow huge amounts of money from the victims with the debt exceeding 100 million won."
"The victims suffered for a long time and some of them died," he said. "In the last 20 years, there has been no sign of efforts to remedy the damages. The victims have been pleading hard. Some agreements were already received. In consideration of all these, the sentence was made for the couple."
The couple were sent to trial for taking 400 million won from 14 people of his neighbor in the years of 1990 to 1998 and fleeing to New Zealand.
The couple, who ran a cow farm in North Chungcheong Province, set up acquaintances as guarantors, borrowed hundreds of millions of won, and borrowed considerable money from other acquaintances.
They are said to have left Jecheon after disposing of 85 cows and farm machinery when dairy farmers broke down due to rising feed costs.
Shortly after the couple went to New Zealand, four victims filed further complaints last November to December, causing a controversy over their debt.
The couple, who refused to return and stayed in New Zealand, were arrested by the police on April 8.
Shin and his wife have reimbursed to some victims, but they have not yet paid back 150 million won.
They insisted that "they had no intentions of borrowing money and establishing solidarity guarantors."
The prosecution sentenced Shin to five years and to Kim three years in prison respectively.
