On October 17, Sulli bade farewell to her family, friends and her fans.
As her coffin was being carried out, her family, SM Entertainment colleagues, and other member staff sent her off. Amber and Victoria who worked together in the group f(x) canceled all other schedules and returned to Korea from the United States and China respectively. Sulli's funeral proceedings were private following the will of the bereaved. However, October 15th and 16th, a separate space was prepared for her fans to bid farewell at the funeral hall of Sinchon Severance Hospital.
The condolences on Sulli's passing continued in the entertainment world. On October 14, when Sulli's news broke out, Super Junior canceled the comeback VLIVE event, and Super M canceled recording of the SBS comeback show. JTBC's 'The Night of Hate Comments' decided to cancel the broadcast on 18th, and Luna suspended appearing as Sophie in the musical 'Mamma Mia!' and will not perform on 19th and 20th. Singers who decided to open comeback events also stopped releasing their contents. IU and Taeyeon postponed the release of their album contents. Dynamic duo has indefinitely postponed their comeback which was originally scheduled on 25th.
The special screening event and press conference of the movie 'The Gift' was also canceled.
The sides of the movie stated, "We made a decision abruptly when we heard the news of Sulli. The staff and actors are also grieving with deep sorrow." The film features Suho in EXO.
The senior entertainers expressed their grief for the loss of young singer. Kim Dong-wan said, "As more media and more entertainers come out, entertainers feel pressured more heavily. There are a lot of adults who want to see healthy and bright smiles of younger entertainers even when they cannot eat well or sleep comfortably. They want them to be tough but not doing fight, sexy but not doing sex." Shim Eun Jin said, "I remembered what kind of stress and feeling I had at that time. All of the people around me told me to endure. I debuted at the age of 18. I have been bearing up and I believe everyone else has also been bearing up." She added, "When I hear this kind of news, I feel sting in my heart." Son Tae-young remarked, "I understand a hundred times a thousand times more. I feel so sad and hurt. I will pray."
The Gyeonggi Seongnam Police Station received a verbal finding that confirms 'no suspicion of external force or foul play' from the National Institute of Scientific Investigations, which conducted an autopsy of Sulli's body. It was concluded that Sulli committed suicide as there are no signs of other criminal allegations such as intrusion from outside. Statements made by those around her showed signs of depression. It may take some time for the precise findings, including the results of drug reactions.
Police are also investigating leaks of Sulli's death document. According to the report, one of the two leaked documents was written by the Seongnam Fire Department to report to the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, and the other was made for reporting to the Police Stations of Seongnam and Gyoung Gi Offices. The inspection department is reportedly investigating how the document was leaked. The firefighting headquarters is contacting the internet community where the document is posted and is working to delete it.
Politicians also voiced the need of regulation on malicious comments. Oh Hyun-joo spokesperson said, "The freedom and boldness that the deceased showed has helped and comforted many women trapped in grim social restriction and prejudice. The messages of freedom and liberation she left in her lifetime has encouraged many people." She added, "The death of the deceased is everyone's fault. Evil and malicious comments that go beyond self-control is called as murder of personality. It is a grave crime. The party promises to do its best to create a policy and legal system to change the culture. "
Park Sung-min, a spokesperson, said, "Groundless rumors and hate comments turned to Sulli." "Sulli, who showed interest in feminism such as escaping corset and no-bra movement, suffered from all kinds of negative comments. We all have to be alert to the fact that hate comment can lead a life to death," added Park. "Before we discuss legal regulations with respect to malicious comments, our awareness must be corrected."
