Can the K-Pop group Big Bang come together again? G-Dragon has finished his military service. Taeyang and Daesung are also going to be discharged soon.
On November 4th, YG Entertainment announced that Taeyang and Daesung will be discharged at Army Ground Operations Command in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province on November 10th.
Taeyang and Daesung, who joined the mandatory military service in March, 2018, have served in the 5th Artillery Brigade of the Cheorwon Army in Gangwon-do and the 27th Division of the Hwacheon Army in Gangwon-do. They were initially supposed to be discharged from their army bases. However, it was decided to relocate to Yongin after discussions with the Army because of African Swine Fever (ASF).
All the members of the Big Bang will end their mandatory military service five days later. T.O.P began serving in February 2017, was called off in July, and G-Dragon joined the army in February last year, and served in the Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Division of the Cheolwon Army, Gangwon Province. He was discharged on October 26th.
G-Dragon's discharge site has been entirely surrounded by the gathering of 3,000 fans from all over the world from the early dawn. Big Bang's G-Dragon revealed his popularity this way. G-Dragon said, "I came back safely. I missed you all." "Thank you for waiting. I will return to my job and fulfill my work sincerely not as a soldier."
Their discharge deserves to be celebrated, but the public's view on the boy band are not very positive. Since their debut in 2006, Big Bang has won the top spot in domestic and international music charts and has been a representative group of K-Pop. However, the group caused a continuous controversy with taking marijuna or illegal acts. Despite being good singers and musicians who need to communicate with music fans on stage, the members except Taeyang have fallen into the investigations of the police.
The first controversy was caused by G-Dragon. G-Dragon was accused of smoking cannabis at a club in Japan in 2011, but explained that he "just smoked thinking it was a cigarette." The prosecution suspended the indictment, considering that G-Dragon was the first offender and had a very small positive response. T.O.P also caused cannabis controversy. Since he started serving as a mandatory police officer of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's band, he was found to have smoked marijuana in 2016. After being deprived of a conscripted officer status, he was converted to a social worker (formerly public service personnel) and released.
Daesung was controversial due to the discovery of illegal businesses in his own building in Gangnam, Seoul. In July, it was revealed that five illegal nightclubs were operating in an eight-story building worth 31 billion won purchased by Daesung at the end of 2017. Daesung said, "Because tenants were already in operation when the building was purchased, we were not aware of the type of illegal business of those companies. We will immediately take legal action against businesses that are found to be illegal. I will do my best with regard to responsibility. " The singer added, "I'm late to realize my lack and reflect deeply. I will faithfully take responsibility for my wrongdoings. "
Member withdrawal was also made. Seungri was considered as the key figure in the so-called 'burning sun controversy'. He decided to withdraw from the group and terminate his contract with the agency. His charges range from prostitution, pimp, criminal embezzlement of business in accordance with the Burning Sun Fund Special Act, embezzlement for legal fees, violation of special law related with sexual violence crimes(shooting using a camera, etc.), etc. He was sent to the prosecution for alleged violations of the law. Afterwards, he was also accused of gambling and sent again to the prosecution.
This is why Big Bang's four-member comeback has become a virtually impossible card. If the company and its members pushed for group activities because of the recovery of their stock price, the public criticism would be inevitable.
G-Dragon and Taeyang have been popular as solo singers before enlisting, so it is highly likely that they will resume their activities in solo or unit form.
