As reports emerged that Kylian Mbappe has become a transfer target for Real Madrid and other European clubs, Paris Saint-Germain is said to be readying an extension offer that the French striker cannot refuse. If Mbappe stays in Paris, his net pay will surge near to the level that Neymar receives per week.
Currently, the Brazilian superstar takes home £900,000 for a week of work, and PSG will bring Mbappe in the same neighborhood. The package that is being prepared for the Frenchman could reach to a weekly pay of £860,000, Metro reported.
However, the pay package to be realized will hinge on the scenario that Neymar will move to another club, the said, adding the money to be saved from the Brazilian's salary will be reallocated to Mbappe's pay.
Speculations are rife that both Neymar and Mbappe could be lured out of Parc des Princes and it seemed PSG would need to make a choice on who to keep. If the reports are to be believed, it appeared that the Ligue 1 giants have decided to bet on the younger striker.
For his part, Neymar has been long rumored to be working on a return to Barcelona and PSG will likely allow that to happen if only to retain the 20-year-old Mbappe.
The Daily Mail said Real Madrid had readied a war chest of £260 million to bring Mbappe to the Spanish side but PSG is unwilling to allow the transfer to happen, to the point of matching the resources of the Los Blancos and making painful adjustments.
Mbappe himself has indicated some reluctance to get out of Paris too soon and move to a different league. The striker said he wants to grow and learn more playing in France.
"I have only played for a year in my country, I'm Parisian, I don't want to leave my country like that. I want to become a great player here. Real Madrid will wait, that's what I think," Mbappe was reported as saying.
Apart from Real Madrid, another team wanting to win the attention of the young Frenchman is Manchester City. Per the same report from Metro, City manager Pep Guardiola has a steady communication with Mbappe, and it seemed that the possibility of the player jumping to the Premier League was among the things discussed.
Moving out was not exactly a remote scenario for Mbappe as he signified in a recent interview that he is "ready to take on more responsibilities, I hope it's here at PSG, but if not, maybe I should start another project."
Guardiola is said to be planning a move on Mbappe in the past two years and is likely to make the plan work given the first opportunity.
