Although it’s mostly celebrity couples who are being constantly dragged to this scandal, it is quite clear that the royal family members are not exempted from this as well.
Prince William was previously rumored to have cheated on Kate Middleton. As if that’s not enough, reports claimed that the Duke of Cambridge had an affair with no other than his wife’s best friend, Rose Hanbury.
With the rumor ruining Prince William’s reputation, people are expecting him and Kate Middleton to sue those British tabloids that were spreading the news. However, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge remained silent and chose to ignore the malicious reports. So, why didn’t they take any legal action?
On the online forum site Quora, one royal fan asked: “Are Prince William and Catherine filing a lawsuit against the tabloids that wrote he was having an affair?” Netizens then discussed the reason why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn’t sue.
“It would be an all-consuming activity because of desperate throbbers wanting their day in court. So, the royals just ignore them. If they did ‘file a suit,’ what do you think the chances of Muppets bleating ‘there’s no smoke without fire’ would be, thinking that such statements are the epitome of the crushing grip of reason?” one wrote. “And partly because haters gonna hate. Most of the time, the Royal Family has the dignity not to get involved. Why would you want to give even the semblance of credence to such obvious lies? When they do, it is serious,” another one commented.
It is a known fact that Queen Elizabeth doesn’t like controversy and would rather avoid it as much as possible. With that said, Her Majesty is expecting the rest of the royal family members to follow her footsteps. Prince William and Kate Middleton clearly listened to the Queen and decided to turn the other cheek.
As for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, they decided to follow their feelings and sued a couple of publications after the latter was bombarded with negative, exaggerated, and fake comments. Given Queen Elizabeth’s stance regarding handling controversies, she was reportedly not too pleased with how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex handled the situation.
In fact, previous reports revealed that Queen Elizabeth removed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s portrait from the Buckingham Palace’s Audience Room. Her Majesty may have felt that their move was not royal-like, so they didn’t deserve to be displayed there.
