The midseason finale of The Walking Dead season 10 saw Michonne embarking a new journey with Virgil. Now, many fans were worried, and they're wondering about the future of Danai Gurira's character and whether or not she's coming back on the series.
According to CarterMatt, Gurira is not officially done in The Walking Dead season 10. However, Michonne will, indeed, exit the show at some point this season. And now that she embarked on a new journey, most fans wondered how this voyage could shape her future.
Executive producer Angela Kang doesn't give finer details about Gurira's character, but she told Deadline about the larger Michonne arc and what she's dealing with at the moment. She said there's still more story to tell with the character in The Walking Dead season 10.
Kang said they've spent some time mapping Michonne arc, especially since she had limited episodes this season. The executive producer revealed they examined what would be the perfect journey for Gurira's character to take, which would have both plot resonance and personal resonance for her.
Moreover, Michonne faced another struggle as she had to deal with the death of her friend, Siddiq. Kang said that Siddiq took on a lot of significance, and it will play into Michonne's story in The Walking Dead season 10. While the character still has a story to tell this season, the executive producer noted they've been planning Michonne's exit already.
So, even though her departure is sad news for many, this is something that would happen at some point this season. But, one of the questions is: what will happen to the children and the community after her exit? This is something that will be explored before the character officially leaves the series.
But aside from Michonne's departure, the midseason finale opens possibilities of new allies and the biggest threat from the Whisperers so far. Also, when asked about the potential return of Lauren Cohan's Maggie, Kang said she's coming back as series regular in season 11. But, she added that viewers would see her before that, teasing her possible appearance in season 10.
Meanwhile, the new episodes of The Walking Dead season 10 will likely return in February 2020 as the preceding installments arrive around this month following a midseason hiatus. AMC releases new episodes every Sunday evening, so new episodes will probably be released either Feb. 9 or Feb. 16. For UK-based viewers, the new episode will air on Monday on Fox.
