Despite the many people hating Prince Andrew now, legendary actor John Challis is backing up to his defense. In an interview on Channel 5, the 77-year-old star is asking everyone to give the disgraced duke a chance, saying he is a "good time lad."

The Only Fools and Horses actor believed that the Duke of York should be given a chance to put things right. He told Jeremy Vine that he was a "good time lad" that made mistakes that he later regrets, per Express.

"I think that the poor man's made an awful lot of mistakes which he now regrets," he explained. What Prince Andrew did, from retiring to living his royal duties, might be the right thing to happen. However, he said that people should give him a break because nothing has been proven true yet. "There is no proof," he added.

John Challis also reminded everyone of Prince Andrew's role in the Falklands War. He even used it as a reason for the public to give him another chance. He also admitted that the prince had been a playboy, although he didn't focus on that matter.

The Green Green Grass star even proudly added Prince Andrew flew a helicopter in the Falklands. It was a good deed that he did, and he was very good at it. He even said that Sarah Ferguson's former husband did very well out there.

However, another TV guest, Salma El-Wardany, opposed John Challis' claim, saying that it was so wrong to say that Prince Andrew was "only hanging out" with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But, Challis stood on his ground and explained that Andrew was fragile like everybody else who made mistakes.

Prince Andrew experienced fallout after his interview on BBC Newsnight with Emily Maitlis turned into a disaster. In the discussion, he proudly said that he didn't regret being friends with Jeffrey Epstein, who died of suicide while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.

He revealed that his friendship with the disgraced financier benefited him when he was only starting as a trade and industry special representative. His interview was then slammed by PR experts, describing that it was a "total disaster."

Borkowski founder Mark Borkowski revealed, via the New York Times Post, that Prince Andrew broke all the contemporary rules of the royals, TV, and PR. As a masterclass in a PR disaster, he added that the effect of the interview would not die down for quite a while.

Given the negativities surrounding Prince Andrew, his said arrogance in the talk only made matters worse. Instead of clearing his name, it made the opposite. It only resulted in negative headlines all over the world and a "million social memes."
