The Conners season 2 is set to air its Christmas fall finale and getting ready for its long hiatus. But before that, the series teased viewers on what to expect when the series returns. It was recently announced that the adult version of Ed would arrive in 2020.
According to a report from TVLine, The Conners season 2 will introduce an older Ed Jr., whom we first met in the original Roseanne. During those times, he was called "Little Ed" and he's the child Ed Sr. (Ned Beatty) had with his second wife, Crystal (Natalie West).
Ed Jr. is a character whom we haven't seen in the series for a long time, so there are a lot of things to explore, like what's going on with him, in The Conners season 2. Right now, he's already 21 years old and college graduate who holds some resentment towards his much-older brother, Dan (John Goodman).
The reason why he has some harsh feelings towards him is that Dan didn't help him care for their octogenarian dad. For Dan, he has to contend with an adult version of Ed, especially since he's someone whom he used to treat as a kid. Currently, casting for the role is underway, and the role will be a recurring one.
The Conners tries to be unique rather than rehashing scenes from Roseanne, but the show isn't afraid to bring back some familiar faces from the original series. That's why we also see Johnny Galecki back in some scenes, and thus, writers will probably bring more familiar faces as the series goes on.
In a related report, The Conners season 2 is set to air its Christmas fall finale. The episode, titled "Smoking Penguins and Santa on Santa Action," will arrive on Tuesday, Dec. 10, on ABC and the series will then go off air for about six weeks.
The fall finale will once again feature a story about family, but with a twist. For instance, Dan felt disappointed because everyone -- but Becky (Lecy Goranson) -- forgot his birthday. But despite that, Dan tries to make Louise (Katey Sagal) fit more with the family.
So, he took advantage of the family Christmas Santa photo and forced Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) to befriend Louise. Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and Ben (Jay R. Ferguson), on the other hand, are both facing issues at work, and this is big trouble for them.
There could be some dark moments coming up within this episode, but the comedy will, of course, still be there -- especially since it's an episode that's all about Christmas. After this episode, TVLine reported The Conners season 2 will return on Tuesday, Jan. 21, on ABC.
