Helena Bonham Carter, one of the stars of The Crown, is dishing up some advice for Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. As someone who is also in the limelight, the famous actress has had her share of brushes with the press.

While on the show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Bonham Carter said that she doesn't pay any attention to the tabloid media. Thus, she also wishes for Meghan not to feel like she has to address the negative press.

The actress imparted the same advice she got when she started becoming famous more than 20 years ago. She learned that it's important to never put one's self-esteem in the hands of strangers, such as the tabloid press.

Bonham Carter plays the late royal Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth's only sister, in The Crown. Her character has her share of controversies as well, while she was still alive, but Bonham Carter said she doesn't trust the opinion of people who have never personally met a celebrity.

As it is, Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, continue to rebut the tabloid media by filing legal cases in court. They have sued tabloids like The Mail on Sunday, The Sun and Mirror for allegedly reporting false stories about them.

Meanwhile, Bonham Carter's co-star in The Crown called the tabloid press "evil" for how they treat Prince Harry and Meghan. Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Elizabeth for the third season of the show, said that she could not understand why some of the British press are so mean to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. She also cannot understand why everything this royal pair does, as soon as they step out of the house, becomes a big deal in the media.

Colman also said that she's okay for Prince Harry and Meghan to spend Christmas away from the royal family this year. The actress said that even other people want to spend Christmas by themselves once in a while, so this shouldn't be a big deal.

Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed in October that they would be leaving for the U.S. for a six-week break during the holidays. They won't be joining Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royals for the annual celebrations in Sandringham. The Queen has given her permission to let the Sussex skip Christmas in Sandringham.
