Fresh off his over five years stint at Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino has practically confirmed he looks forward to a quick return to football coaching, and preferably in England. The former Spurs manager has indicated he will take a short breather then get down to business.
Pochettino made his way back to Argentina and there he indicated that his vacation will be brief as the plan is to return to Europe and look at the proposed projects presented to him. He has ruled out the possibility of working on his homeland, Bleacher Report said.
"It is my intention to return to manage in Europe. It is hard for me to imagine a project in Argentina ... I expect to return to Europe to make decisions on my future," Pochettino was reported as saying.
In any case, it seemed the upcoming projects that the Argentine hinted involve Arsenal, which recently sacked Unai Emery as manager, and Manchester United, which is long-rumored to be hunting a replacement for current team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Both Premier League clubs are in struggle mode and Pochettino coming in is seen to bring with him a turnaround. It should be noted though that Pochettino himself was let go by Tottenham for supposedly poor form of the North London squad in the ongoing season.
However, the Argentine remains a respected manager in England mainly for his overall performance while in charge of the Spurs.
At Arsenal, supporters of the club have been clamoring for the appointment of Pochettino as manager even before the sacking of Emery. There were talks that Gunners executives have started negotiating with Pochettino for the possibility of sorting out things at the Emirates.
On the part of United, Solskjaer has been dogged by speculations that his exit is but a matter of time and among the strongest candidates to take over from is Pochettino. To date, however, none of the two camps have made indications that the Argentine will soon make take the lead at the Old Trafford.
The Premier League though is not the only option available for Pochettino. According to Mirror, there is a strong interest in the former Spurs coach to take the spot recently vacated by Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac.
"The Argentine has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, where he is greatly admired following his work at Spurs," the report said.
It is believed the Bavarian club is willing to wait for Pochettino to make up his mind as interim boss Hansi Flick is said to remain in charge until the winter break in 2020.
