Details in the sentencing of Jung Joon-young's gang rape and spycam case have been publicized after KBS obtained a copy of the court's 67-page written judgment. The verdict detailed the extent of the singer's distribution of his illegally filmed sex videos.
It can be recalled that on November 29, Jung Joon-young, along with his accomplices, former FT Island member Choi Jong-hoon and Girls' Generation Yuri's brother, Kwon Hyuk Jun were sentenced to six, five and four year prison terms after they were found guilty of gang rape, Soompi reported.
Jung Joon-young was likewise found guilty of distributing illegally filmed materials of his sexual conquests in a group chat which included other celebrities. However, the court decision revealed even more shocking details of the singer-songwriter's crimes.
Based on the findings of the court, Jung Joon-young shared illegally filmed photos and videos of 10 victims across eight chatrooms. There were a total of five group chats and three personal chatrooms where he shared the videos to 14 recipients from December 2015 to June 2016.
Among the victims, two were non-Koreans. The court also said that some of the women could have been victimized more than once.
While some of the women appeared to know that they were being filmed, the court found that they were unaware that the video was bring distributed to multiple parties by the singer. On November 26, 2015, the verdict even cited Joon-young's chat activity where he shared illegally filmed footage three times in a single day, which indicated that he considered it a normal part of his daily life.
While the court based its ruling on the evidence presented at the trial, it can be recalled that during the early days of the investigation, Jung Joon-young was able to erase the contents of what authorities called his "golden phone." The phone could have contained more proof of his scandalous activities.
At the sentencing, the judge presiding over the case drew attention to the magnitude of the crime committed against the victims.
"Jung and Choi took part in the gang rape of victims who were intoxicated and unable to resist. It is hard to fathom the extent of suffering the victims must have gone through," the verdict said.
During the sentencing, it was reported that both Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon were in tears. However, Korean netizens were unmoved and said that the crimes committed by the celebrities deserved more than the prison term they received.
Koreans took to social media to say that while the celebrities will be in tears while they serve their prison term, their victims will be in tears for the rest of their lives, SCMP reported.
