Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla were the first royals to meet and greet the NATO leaders as they enter the Buckingham Palace. While everything seemed to go well, reports noticed that the royal couple was caught in an awkward moment with the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

As reported by Daily Express, the French President shook the hands of the Heir Apparent and the Duchess of Cornwall longer than expected. The whole gesture was caught on camera, and also published by the reports that deemed the moment as a very "awkward" one for the royals.

Emmanuel Macron first shook hands with Prince Charles. At first, the engagement between the two personalities was lively and ecstatic. Many experts and fans noticed that they are very close given the way they talked to each other.

Based on the video, they exchanged a very cheerful conversation with each other. However, the French President seemed to not let go of Prince Charles as he held his arms even after the conversation already started with Duchess Camilla.

When the duchess finally gave out her hand, Emmanuel Macron then moved his hands and placed both to hold on tight to the royal. As they also seemingly exchanged a lively conversation, the French leader slowly bowed his head.

Some analysts deemed it as a supposed kiss to the duchess' hand. Others, however, saw it as a mere bow to the royal which is why she also bowed her head.

The conversation and the handshake with Duchess Camilla were said to be much longer than the one with Prince Charles. Although the royals seemed happy as they greet the NATO leaders, a lot of people commented that it was truly an "awkward" moment.

Even so, no comments were heard from Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla regarding the matter. So, there is no way to tell if they felt what the public has been describing with the said handshake.

Express UK further shared that this was not the only time when Emmanuel Macron was caught in an awkward position. As it happened, the French President was also seen to do the same thing with the United States First Lady, Melania Trump.

As shared by the publication, the French leader attended the summit without her wife. At the end of the event, the United States President, Donald Trump invited and offered him a ride at the Beast.

Emmanuel Macron reportedly accepted the gesture and thanked the couple for their offer. He then shook hands with the First Lady. However, sources claimed that it was very awkward for her since it was a "two-handed" handshake while they are in the middle of the street.
