EXO-Ls were extremely angry over Mnet's exploitation of EXO's clip from 2017 at the recent Mnet Asian Music Awards 2019 held in Nagoya, Japan. Furious fans took to Twitter to trend their disgust over the blatant misrepresentation with the hashtag #MamaApologizetoEXO.
According to a report by All Kpop, EXO-Ls were furious over the numerous incidents of disrespect committed against EXO at the recently concluded 2019 MAMA Awards. EXO stans screenshot the images from the broadcast as well as Mnet's social media posts to serve as evidence of the show's shabby treatment of the SM Entertainment artists.
Among Mnet's missteps included crossing out an image of EXO in one of the clips that was shared, and later deleted on the show's social media page. However, what drew the fans' ire was the use of a clip from the 2017 awards show where EXO won Album of the Year.
Mnet edited the clip to read Tears of Joy across the members' tearful faces when they received the award. However, fans who knew what went on during the controversial awards night spoke up to call out MAMA Awards for misrepresenting the facts. It can be recalled that MAMA Awards came under fire during the 2017 show when it was revealed that EXO-Ls were treated shabbily by the event's staff. Fans said that apart from cutting EXO's performance, EXO-Ls were ordered to turn off their light sticks to prevent them from showing their support for their idols.
Fans also complained that EXO was robbed of the awards they were supposed to win on that night and accused security of being violent with EXO supporters.EXO-Ls said that contrary to what Mnet presented at the MAMA 2019 clip, EXO's tears were not because of joy but because the members were crying when they found out about how the fans were treated.
According to the report, even Song Joong Ki, who presented the award to EXO, shared that the members were even crying backstage after learning what happened to their fans during the show. It was believed that this was the reason EXO never attended the MAMA Awards after 2017.
EXO-Ls were not the only fandom that spoke up about Mnet's unfair treatment. iGOT7, GOT7's official fandom also sounded off online and accused Mnet of sabotaging the JYP Entertainment idol group. Aghases complained that Mnet deliberately deleted the video of GOT7's performance at the MAMA 2019 just as it was going viral on Naver.
The fans found it suspicious that the rest of the group performances remained untouched and GOT7's performance was the only one removed. After deleting the original GOT7 video, it was later replaced with a different clip.
Even as Aghases asked for an explanation, Mnet refused to acknowledge the fans' demand and remained silent on the issue, Kpopmap reported.
