Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly bring a new approach to the royal family. They are said to be injecting modernity to the monarchy, but it looks like it is not working well with everyone, especially the senior royals. After the Sussexes tell it all in an ITV interview and file a lawsuit against a British publication, there is an alleged tension between them and the royal family members.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Insider that this new way of royal life seemed "unlikely to have gone down well" with the senior royals. Allegedly, their actions affected their relationship with the royal family.
After their ITV interview aired, Fitzwilliams explained that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had no intention to seek for the royal family's approval. There was a little doubt it would go well with the most senior royals because "it wasn't meant to."
Fitzwilliams recalled that Prince Harry admitted there was a rift between him and his brother, Prince Williams. Meghan Markle, on the other hand, seemed to imply that she was only surviving as a member of the royal family, but not thriving. There were also questions about how she was doing.
The former actress even said that not too many people asked if she was OK. However, it was not clear if she was pertaining to the members of the royal family or others. Basically, Fitzwilliams said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry complained about the royal life with the whole world watching.
"Unless the Sussexes, who would be such brilliant charitable activists following in Diana's footsteps, agree to be more conventional royals, with the press attention that goes with that, or actually decide to drop out and base themselves elsewhere, they must conform much more," Fitzwilliams added. "After a year beset with crises which has shown royal advisers either to be ignored or inadequate, there must be change at the palace."
According to Express, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's ITV interview sparked outrage among royal watchers and insiders alike. There was never a scene before that a royal family member talked about their "personal grievances" about living a royal life so openly in public.
The TV interview and the lawsuit were said to be a huge diverge from the royal protocol. They made their voices heard and challenged the press, but it didn't help them improve their image. These things, unfortunately, never sit well with the royal family. Currently, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are on a six-week break from their royal duties to have their much-needed family vacation.
