The Good Doctor season 3 is currently on its midseason break, and the medical drama series is set to come back in 2020. A lot of things happened in the fall finale, especially for Dr. Shaun Murphy. The doctor has been through a lot this season, so what's next for him when the series returns?
When The Good Doctor season 3 comes back, viewers can expect character reveals, as well as romantic story arcs. For Shaun and Carly, the latter will do her best to be supportive and caring towards him. However, things might get awkward between them as Shaun will possibly tell her a few things about Lea caring for him, making Carly even more uncomfortable.
As for Shaun and Lea, The Good Doctor season 3 will likely explore their relationship. There are several reasons for Carly to be concerned, especially since the two shared a deep level of emotional intimacy. Also, Shaun has also shown his feeling for Lea before, so he needs to figure out what his feelings are now towards her.
In the fall finale, Shaun and Lea shared emotional intimacy. This could lead to Carly questioning herself whether Shaun is more interested in Lea than her. He needs to sort out his feelings and figure out where Lea and Carly stand in his life. Things could get even more complicated with the three of them when the series returns.
Aside from Shaun's romantic conflicts, he will also focus on his job. He has been through a lot earlier this season, so he probably wants to focus on patients and surgeries to divert his attention. He reunited with his estranged father in the fall finale but eventually lost him. While the two aren't close, his father's death is still hard for him to accept. Also, Shaun's relationship with his mother will be explored this season.
As for what else is coming for other characters, the story of Dr. Lim and Dr. Melendez has been featured earlier this season. Claire's emotional journey has been shown as well, and it's exciting to see some results for her of that decision to seek treatment. Some also wanted to see other characters, such as Morgan and Park, getting a spotlight.
The Good Doctor season 3 is set to come back on Monday, Jan. 13, on ABC.
