Watchmen episode 9 is set to arrive on HBO later this week, with the title "See How The Fly." The upcoming episode will serve as the season finale, so viewers should expect more actions, and several mysteries will be uncovered as well. Here's what we can expect in the episode.
The network isn't giving too much detail about the season finale, aside from the short promo of Watchmen episode 9. The clip starts with Adrian Veidt (Jeremy Irons) inside his prison cell while looking at his clock. He reunited with Dr. Manhattan (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) in the previous episode, and it was revealed the latter was behind his imprisonment.
Also, the trailer hints that Lady Trieu's (Hong Chau) Millennium Clock will be the focus of Watchmen episode 9. It looks like she's ready to ignite her weapon with Angela (Regina King), though it wasn't shown what will happen. There have been a few details regarding the device, but it was billed as a way to save the world.
The promo also teased that a lot of characters are in danger, from Senator Joe Keene (James Wolk) to Dr. Manhattan. Moreover, Laurie Blake (Jean Smart) seemed to be worried about the upcoming battle, as the clip showed a glimpse being held captive by the Seventh Kavalry. It looks like there will be a major showdown in Watchmen episode 9, and the characters should be prepared as everyone is in danger.
Meanwhile, series creator Damon Lindelof said that viewers should be prepared as the series will reach a "solid conclusion". In an interview Metro.co.uk, he talked about the possibility of continuing the show and what he would want to do in the future. He explained that they represented their ideas in all nine episodes, and didn't leave a room for "let's save that for later."
The series creator also said they want viewers to have a complete experience of a story, wherein it has a beginning, middle, and end. Lindelof further explained that he didn't want to be frustrated by unresolved mysteries. Thus, all the remaining questions throughout the season will probably be answered in the season finale.
Right now, there's no confirmation whether or not the series will be renewed for a second season. While the live ratings of the first season aren't shattering any records, the freshman series still managed to establish its fanbase. There are a lot of viewers watching the show during the weekend, so HBO may consider continuing the story.
Watchmen episode 9 will air on Sunday, Dec. 15, on HBO. For UK-based viewers, they can watch the finale on Monday, Dec. 16, on Sky Atlantic.
