Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is going to two Christmas Day celebrations this year. It's a tradition that she has been following since becoming a member of the royal family.
Prince Charles' wife will leave Queen Elizabeth's Christmas Day observance in Sandringham right after the airing of the Queen's speech on television. The reason for this is simple and valid -- she's spending the rest of Christmas Day with her children from her first marriage, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes.
Tom confirmed that his family will be with Camilla for Christmas Day in an interview with Town & Country magazine. The food write shared that they all drive down together at a chosen venue to celebrate with the Parker Bowles side of the family and Camilla comes down from Sandringham as soon as the Queen's speech is done.
Camilla's son also shared that his mother is at preparing "traditional English stuff" for the holiday. Tom described the Duchess of Cornwall as a traditional cook and his fondest memories of his mother in his childhood years was her swearing in the kitchen while preparing their Christmas turkey.
In 2018, Camilla was not able to join Prince Charles for Christmas in Sandringham. She was apparently suffering a cold at that time and wasn't up to traveling to the Queen's estate, per reports.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla have yet to send out their personalized Christmas cards for this year. In 2018, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall gave a card with their adorable photo as they sat on a park bench smiling at each other.
The previous year, Prince Charles and Camilla's Christmas card featured a glamorous photo of the couple, which was taken on her birthday. In 2016, the card had their photo from Croatia.
Meanwhile, despite Christmas coming in a few days, these royals are still quite busy performing their duties to their patronage. A few days ago, Prince Charles and Camilla attended a ceremony to acknowledge the commission of the HMH Prince of Wales, a new aircraft carrier.
The said event was particularly different as Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, walked behind his wife. According to reports, Camilla had a special role in the event as the Lady Sponsor. Tradition dictated that the vessel must have a female sponsor for good luck.
The new carrier is the second in the Queen's fleet and reportedly cost about $4 billion (£3.1 billion). Camilla described the vessel's size as "breathtaking" and could fit about 25 Clarence Houses on to the deck.
