Liverpool has announced Jurgen Klopp signed an extension with the club and will stay until 2024 if all goes well. The news was welcomed by fellow managers in the Premier League as they offered congratulations to the German head coach, who reportedly will be paid £15 million a year going forward.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said Klopp spending more years in England will be good for the league, stressing that the German is well-loved by Liverpool community, as evidenced by the contract extension.
"Good news for the Premier League because we want to have the best players, the best coaches and he's one of the best. It is positive news for everyone," Metro reported the Portuguese as saying.
"Obviously I think great news for the Liverpool fans because they love him, for the players, because it looks clear that they like each other and the relation is very good," Mourinho added.
Frank Lampard of Chelsea saw the signing to redound well for the league because it would mean there will remain "so many great managers in the Premier League."
"I love going up against the top managers so I'm pleased, not disappointed. It is a challenge for us to bridge that gap," the Blues boss noted.
For his part, Pep Guardiola agreed that Klopp's continuing presence would make for a healthier competition in the league.
"Congratulations to him and Liverpool for five more years here in England - he deserves it ... I think it's really good for the Premier League that he can continue here," the Manchester City said, and as reported by Fox Sports.
Before managing Liverpool, Klopp spent 14 years heading professional clubs back in Germany and split that span between Dortmund and Mainz 05. His contract with Liverpool will be the longest spell for the German, a total of nine years if he will see through the deal five years from now.
Liverpool wanting to keep Klopp was not unsurprising. The club is on the top of the Premier League table and is favored to win the title at the end of the season. The Reds remain unbeaten at 33 matches, 16 in the season, and likely will remain so.
In addition, with Klopp in charge Liverpool saw the entry of talents in Anfield that according to CGTN "transformed Liverpool into fearful opponents."
Klopp's recent recruits include Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, and Virgil Van Dijk - and all have made to the top for the 2019 Ballon d'Or award that Lionel Messi has won.
Prolonging his stay with Liverpool will translate to stability for the club, according to the German boss.
"Four-and-a-half years from now sounds like forever in football. Nine years, [my] longest spell at a club... I'm just looking forward to it... It's good and positive that some people in football know I will be here for longer. It gives us stability," Klopp said.
