Doctor Who season 12 is arriving on New Year's Day and many fans were excited to see the sci-fi series back in the small screen. What's even more exciting is that the show keeps on sharing updates on what to expect in the upcoming installment. Just recently, series star Jodie Whittaker answered some questions about the monsters in the new season.

In a video shared by BBC Radio One, a 9-year-old young girl asked Whittaker whether or not she's scared acting with opposite monsters of creatures that aren't event there. This is actually an interesting question, especially since the actress portrays the role of the 13th Doctor. She has to deal with different monsters, so the fan asked if she gets scared of acting with these terrifying villains.

In response to the question, Whittaker said that some of the costumes can be really scary -- or at least at first. She shared that during the first season when Tim Shaw's character appeared, she got really scared as the monster got teeth on his face, describing it as "absolutely terrifying." Then, she admitted that it can be strange and disorienting sometimes since she worked with a tennis ball or a CGI model.

In a related report, Whittaker noted that the monsters in Doctor Who season 12 are scary and joked that even her co-star Bradley Walsh got really scared. Speaking with Radio Times, Whittaker, Mandip Gill (Yaz), and Toisin Cole (Ryan) shared what their characters will be facing in the upcoming installment; noting that a particular foe is above the rest when it comes to shock.

When asked whether they've got a favorite new creature in Doctor Who season 12, Whittaker said they're all got the same one. Mandip then added there's one particular creature that's really scary, while Tosin said he was "proper shook." Then, Whittaker shared an incident from the set that may be fresh from Walsh's mind. She said the creature was so scary and made the actor ran in fear.

But aside from the new yet unknown monster, there are also other familiar creatures appearing in Doctor Who season 12 -- one of which is the old favorite: the Cybermen. According to Whittaker, working with these creatures is intimidating, but they didn't make her run away. She also revealed the Cybermen were "massive" and their episode is "really exciting".

Doctor Who season 12 is arriving on Wednesday, Jan. 1, on BBC America.
