Outgoing Guatemala President Jimmy Morales and wife Patricia Marroquin recently visited the President and First Lady of the United States, Donald and Melania Trump, at the White House to discuss immigration and trade. As everything seemed went well, the FLOTUS shared some snaps of the meeting on Twitter. However, the post received a huge backlash, as fans sent a tirade of criticisms and insults to the former model.
"Today @POTUS and I welcomed the President & First Lady of Guatemala to the @WhiteHouse," Melania Trump captioned the snap. The photos featured the four personalities as they were busy exchanging words with each other.
However, it looked like the meeting didn't sit well with their followers. One Twitter user called Melania Trump as a "phony First Lady," while another one said that her post didn't do anything for the country. There was also another follower who felt sorry for the President and First Lady of Guatemala for needing to put up with Donald Trump and his wife.
Some called out her initiative, BeBest, and said Melania Trump was a joke. "Seriously? Do you truly think anybody gives a damn?" another one questioned.
Jimmy Morales and Patricia Marroquin's visit to the U.S. reminded everyone of Donald Trump's previous comments on Guatemala. The user name Diane McLaughlin asked Melania Trump wasn't the country was one of the places that her husband insulted. Holly Jafari supported the claim, adding it was the nation that the former businessman called "s*** holes."
Some netizens also pointed out the separation of families that happened at the U.S. border. Devin Duke reminded Melania Trump that the families that Donald Trump split up were Guatemalans. Also, another added about the Guatemalan kids that were in the cages at the border. "Did you show them where you have their people in cages?" one more asked.
Upon Jimmy Morales and Patricia Marroquin's state visit, Donald Trump called the U.S.'s relationship with Guatemala "tremendous. He even praised the Guatemalan president about the immigration deal, where they agreed to accept migrants who sought asylum in a foreign country. He even said that their relationship was "very good," and Guatemala was a "very important" country for the border and trade, per VOA News.
To recall, the Trump administration reached an agreement with the Morales government that would allow the U.S. immigration officials to send immigrants from the U.S.-Mexican border to Guatemala. The first migrants were sent in November. A total of 24 people were received in the country under the said agreement.
