First Lady Melania Trump, the third wife of President Donald Trump, owns an engagement ring that's reportedly a lot more expensive than the president's ex-wives got. The D-flawless diamond apparently cost about $1.5 million at that time Trump bought it in 2005 but he has upgraded the jewelry for their 10th wedding anniversary, which should now be estimated to be worth over $3 million.
According to Daily Express, Trump bought the 15-carat diamond ring from the jeweler Graff Diamonds when he proposed to Melania. The diamond is supposed to be a rare kind of jewel and he once bragged about getting this for half the price.
His first wife Ivanka, whom he married in the '70s, didn't get an engagement ring that was this expensive. She wouldn't disclose the value of the ring but she allegedly got to keep all the jewelry she received from her husband following their divorce in 1992 because it had little value to Trump.
His second wife Marla Maples, whom he married in 1993, got a 7.45 carat Harry Winston diamond ring that was valued at about $321,000 in 2016. The pair got divorced in 1999 and Marla sold off her engagement ring at an auction.
For their 10th wedding anniversary just before the elections in 2016, Trump reportedly had Melania's ring upgraded to 25-carats from the same jeweler. According to diamond expert Tobias Kormind, this ring is significantly one of the most coveted qualities of diamond in existence and could be worth more than $3 million.
Meanwhile, amid reports that Trump got Melania's engagement ring at a discount, the jeweler who sold it to the future president said it was not exactly the case. According to Forbes, Trump was not extended the million-dollar discount he allegedly bragged about more than a decade ago.
However, Graff Diamonds said that they had the pleasure of doing business with Trump back then but they didn't give him any favors. The jeweler refused to divulge the value of what Trump actually paid for although they confirmed the president paid in full and immediately.
The First Lady's ring has raised some controversy especially after she wore the piece to her official portraits. Allegedly, it showed a lack of empathy on the part of the Trumps because she chose to flaunt her million-dollar ring while many taxpayers are making ends meet. It also raised eyebrows given the issues of Trump's taxes as a businessman.
