Manchester United suffered a defeat even with Paul Pogba back in action, and pundits still view the club as "hit or miss." It would be a boost than to continue on with the rebuild plan, and one target that will do good for the Red Devils has been identified as Jonny Evans, once a regular at the Old Trafford.
The center-back had a nine-year spell with United, clocking 198 appearances, but was tagged a surplus to requirements in 2015. Evans was then sold to West Brom in the same year and moved again to Leicester last year.
Under Brendan Rodgers, the Northern Ireland international seemed rejuvenated and saw his star shone, according to Express. Inevitably the pundits took notice, and one of them is Liverpool legend Graeme Souness, who observed that Evans proved a revelation so far with the Foxes.
As a result, Souness said United might be just interested to bring Evans back to Old Trafford, but there are other teams interested as well, like Manchester City.
With the 31-year-old Irish on the Leicester roster, the club has so far been doing well in the Premier League. Their last outing was a defeat against the City, but the Foxes remain at No. 2 of the table, only 10 points behind the league leader Liverpool.
Rodgers has already stated his goal for the season is for Leicester to be part of the Top Four, but the chance is there for him to steer the club and finish No. 2 or even No. 1. There is little doubt, Evans is a key participant on the Foxes' good showing so far.
With the way things are going for Evans on the pitch now, Souness he will be a great addition to any of the Manchester clubs.
"Jonny Evans has been a revelation and both Manchester clubs would love him right now. If he and their other key players stay fit, Leicester will be there or thereabouts," the Liverpool hero was reported by Metro as saying.
The center-back would be a boost on the turnaround that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been working on. Such an effort, according to Souness, has so far led to mixed results for the Red Devils.
"They are still hit and miss, so there's a big question mark against them," Souness said, adding the last games by United seemed to indicate the club remains struggling.
"United looked like they might have turned a corner with the wins over Spurs and Manchester City, then it was back to what we've seen for most of this season from them against Everton," he explained.
Solskjaer has been clear on his plan to beef up the United lineup, and the club has been linked with the possible transfer of Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland to the Premier League.
