Melania Trump's Christmas message for the U.S. military servicemen was met with criticisms and ridicule. The First Lady of the United States received a flock of mixed responses on social media when she delivered remarks about the holiday season to introduce President Donald Trump amidst the looming impeachment trial.
A lot of people found it a strange thing to do for the FLOTUS to deliver a message about the holiday season to introduce the POTUS after the impeachment. In the clip, the former model was surrounded by uniformed servicemen and women, while standing at a podium with the presidential seal on the front. Donald Trump was also by her side.
Melania Trump acknowledged their sacrifices by enlisting in the military, especially during the holiday season, when they have to be away from their families. "On behalf of my family, I want to thank every member of our military and their families for their devotion to our country and their courage to defend our freedoms," she said.
She continued to say that they send their prayers to all the soldiers who are overseas and will not be home with their loved ones this Christmas. She then added that the nation is with them and thanked them for everything they do for the country and the people to make everyone safe. She ended her message with a greeting of a "very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year."
The clip got a strong response from the critics and supporters alike. As of this writing, it now has almost 17,000 retweets and 78,000 likes. The comments were also a mixture of support and criticisms. In fact, some accounts were already suspended.
According to The Blast, some people used Melania Trump's post to have something to go after her and Donald Trump. Some found her speech without emotions. She allegedly was only reading her spiel, and it was a cold as the "White House Christmas trees."
Another one added that Donald Trump was scared to go into the services, so she had to do it. "Want to make their holiday great? Tell your husband to live up to his promise of bringing them home from those senseless wars as he calls them!!" another comment read.
Of course, there were also some words from Donald Trump's supporters. Some thanked Melania Trump for honoring the military servicemen and women, saying she and the president were "greatly appreciated." A mom of an overseas worker also treasured the talk and thanked God for his son managed to work under the "great POTUS and FLOTUS administration."
